Our Goals + Origin

Values

At ATTOL, we want to make unique and sustainable clothing. To do this, we up-cycle our pieces. This is a rather unusual way of creating our pieces -- but it meets our goals. Even more, we don't believe in micro trends, which inspires us to create unique and special pieces for you! We wanted to find a way to use the clothing left over from microtrends (or clothing from other reasons), which is why this brand is alive!

Sustainability

We find old clothes from a variety of places, like samples from other fashion factories, clothing donated to us, and other abandoned clothing that needs a new life! We might naturally dye clothes, add stitching, add fabric scraps, or cut up pieces. This is our way of representing slow fashion, by reusing clothing to allow it to be re-worn for longer.

Aesthetics

Old clothes can be cute! Just because a piece of clothing is out of style, ripped, minimally stained, or wonky for any other reason does not mean that it cannot eventually be a great garment.

There are so many ways to upcycle, giving us endless options for everyone's needs and desires.

The Mission + Journey

By re-using and upcycling fabrics into useable, reimagined clothes and accessories, we are going forward on our mission to decrease the waste in the fashion industry, and to help our planet and people. Using sustainable fabrics is important, but not our main focus as a brand that upcycles. Fabrics like organic cotton (which is surprisingly different from regular cotton), linen, ECONYL, and fortunately many more are better kinds of fabric to save our planet (compared to other fabrics that are dyed unethically or use plastic.) We upcycle any kinds of fabrics and clothes, however, we still bring awareness to these, because there are other ways to shop sustainably, other than just upcycling. One (out of many!!) of our biggest issues in the fast fashion industry (an industry that creates clothing in a very "fast" and unethical way) is the energy it uses, harming the natural waters and resources on our planet that desperately need saving.

The Why
+ History

The fashion industry is one of the most wasteful, and unsustainable industries in the world, and we want to change that. This all routes back to the Industrial Revolution when more people began to live in cities and factories increased. From there, it was easier to manufacture clothes. This even led to child labor. It was common and known for children to work in factories including clothing. This is an unethical practice, and similar situations are still happening today. Today, there are so many fast fashion brands, that are not only unsustainable to Earth, but also unethical to people. Clare Press, in her book "Wardrobe Crisis" precisely explains the want for new clothes, but only later noticing the impact it has on other people, the planet, and yourself. Fast fashion brands use unsustainable fabrics (such as denim, cotton, nylon, and so many more), low wages and high hours for workers, child labor, shockingly cheap prices, and harming natural resources on Earth. These brands go against labor laws since they can take advantage of them while trying to be secretive about it.

They work in an unsustainably "fast" way, which can cause their clothing/fabric to travel approximately 16,500 miles to get to the customer. This is a lot of fossil fuels! Through travel (transporting fabrics and factories) and factory manufacturing, there is a lot of greenhouse gasses released into the planet. Fossil fuels are non-renewable energy sources. Simply, this means that resources are limited, and will eventually end. Therefore, it is an unsustainable practice and not one we support. On top of that, fast fashion is popular because of its micro trends. Trends are not necessarily bad, however, micro trends are unethical. Simply, they are trends that end at a rapid-fire pace, causing leftover clothes from brands and thrown-out clothes from consumers. Clothes should be worn until they last -- which is what we do!

Next Steps + News

The goals for this brand are something that will go on for a long time and will evolve to continue being sustainable. However, we want to grow as a brand to upcycle more than the old clothes we find. Which is why... we are soon opening up custom clothing! Meaning, you send us a piece of clothing that you do not wear anymore (for whatever reason), we will reimagine the piece, according to your preferences. Then we send it back to you! Pricing and more information to come! Additionally, as a brand that upcycles, our pieces are rather limited, which is why we hope this will bring in new variations, such as color preferences and sizing options! These steps in our brand will help to bring more awareness and a new reputation for the fashion industry <3
